Mathew Scott "Hippy" McCurry, age 66, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 10, 2025, at his home in Mooresboro, NC, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Rutherford County on November 10, 1958, he was the son of the late Donnis Allen McCurry and Ivo McCurry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffery McCurry, and stepfather, Roy Allen.

Scott was a hardworking man who built a career in construction. He was known for his fun-loving spirit and enjoyed playing poker and horseshoes, as well as spending time fishing.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Brenda Elmo McCurry; his son, Jeffery McCurry (Beth); and four cherished grandchildren: Keegan Harris, Harper Harris, Auden Moorcroft, and Millie Ann Porter. He is also survived by two sisters, Teresa McCurry and Donna Metcalf; sister-in-law, Jeanie Lucas; brother-in-law, Wayne Camp (Ginny); and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory, and at other times at the family home.
