Mavin Hoyle Swofford
Mavin Hoyle Swofford passed away on September 1, 2025 in Cherryville, NC surrounded by her loving family. She was 92 years old. Mavin was born on February 14, 1933 in Polkville, North Carolina to the late Henry Nathan Hoyle and Hester Sigmon Hoyle. She was one of twelve Mavin is survived by her sister Ruth Brown of Beaverdam, daughter Patricia Poston (Mark), son Floyd Swofford (Barbara) and beloved grandchildren James William Swofford (Keia), Angela Owens, Beverly Owens (Scott), Ryan Flynn (Amy), and great-grandchildren Madison Owens, Jackson Owens, Colton Flynn, Alex Flynn, Emma Owens, and Walter Cooper. Mavin retired as a nurse from White Oak Manor in Shelby, but is best known for the ways in which she loved her family and spent her life. Mavin was a doer. She loved to make pickles and put up the bounty grown by her husband, John, in his big garden. She loved gospel music and had a soft spot for the music of Randy Travis and the Statler Brothers. Mavin's house was identifiable by its bright red roses, which she adored and every child knew they better not pick. She loved her collection of Avon products and shoes (so many shoes). She sewed clothes and even made cheerleader uniforms for her granddaughter, Angela Owens. Mavin traveled. She loved to escape to Helen, Georgia with her husband John and made memories with her beautician, Dot, in Hawaii. One of her favorite trips and best days was to Cherokee, North Carolina where she shopped for moccasins and had her picture made with the A small service will be held at Big Springs Baptist Church on Saturday, September 6 at 11am.
