Max Hugh "Suicide" Camp

Max Hugh "Suicide" Camp, 82, of Shelby, peacefully completed his earthly journey at the Wendover Hospice House on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. A native of Cleveland County, he was born August 17, 1943, to the late Charles Max Daniel Camp and Ruby Williams Camp. Max retired in 2007 from UPS Freight, formerly known as Overnite trucking. During his time as a truck driver he was known as Suicide over the CB systems. He was an avid woodworker, and enjoyed coin collecting. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Perry Earl Huskey, and brothers, James Camp and George Leonard Camp. Survivors include his son, Lawrence H. Camp, of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter, Jessica Nicole Camp Mote (Duane), of Shelby; brother, Floyd Camp, of Cherryville; sisters, Rebecca Murray (J.L.), of Kings Mountain, Reba Hudson, of Grover, and Brenda Evans (George), of Grover; grandchildren, Nicolas Ian Camp (Dhariana), of Cherryhill, New Jersey, Paxton Lee Mote (Kyndal), of Shelby, and Carrigan Elizabeth Huskey Lail (Hayden), of Vale; and a great-grandson, Huntlee Ray Lail. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 21, 2025 at the Cecil M. Burton Funeral Chapel with Reverend Robert Mote and Reverend Shawn Anderson officiating.
