Mearl Valentine, 81, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on March 20, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, NC. Born in Cleveland County NC, he was the son of the late O.M. "Shorty" Valentine and Gertrude Bratton and was preceded in death by his brother Ernest Valentine. Mearl was a lifetime member of Grace United Methodist Church in Kings Mountain. He was very active in Kings Mountain Athletics where he was a member of the Kings Mountain High School Booster Club and the Kings Mountain High School Touchdown Club. Mearl served on the Kings Mountain Hall of Fame Committee and was inducted to the Hall of Fame in 2014 in recognition of his outstanding High School Sports career as well as his devotion as a coach and supporter of community athletic programs. . He was a founding organizer of Pop Warner Football in the Kings Mountain community. Mearl was recognized by everyone as a fixture at Kings Mountain High School sporting events and served as a spotter in the football press box for many years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a proud great grandfather.

Great Grandchildren: Mason Laughridge and Rosie McDaniel

FUNERAL SERVICE: A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, March 23, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Grace United Methodist Church, Kings Mountain, NC

VISITATION: Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Harris Funeral Home, Kings Mountain, NC
