Michael Whitener Peeler, 63, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center.  He was the son of the late Edwin Hugh Peeler and Elsie Whitener Peeler.  He is also preceded in death by a sister-in-law Dot Peeler.  Mr. Peeler was an employee of Royster Oil Company in Shelby since February 2, 1972.  He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church,  a member of the Army National Guard and member and past commander of the Shelby Amvets Post 42.

Mr. Peeler is survived by his loving wife of 16 years Debbie Fisher Peeler of Cherryville; two sons, Brent Peeler and wife Misti of Fort Mill, SC, Andy Peeler and wife Chelly of Shelby; a stepson, Andy Bennett and wife Ashley of SC; two stepdaughters, Dawn Farmer of Shelby and Cary Ray of Raleigh; his mother, Elsie Whitener Peeler of Shelby; his sister, Linda Peeler Hendrick and husband Dean of Lattimore; his brothers, Ed Peeler of Shelby, Charlie Peeler and wife Starr of Shelby, Tim Peeler and wife Sheila of Shelby, Joe Peeler and wife Irene of Texas, Phil Peeler and wife Peggy of Tennessee; 11 grandchildren, 7 nephews and 4 nieces.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Eastside Baptist Church in Shelby.  The Rev. Leland Kerr will be officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6:00- 8:00pm on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.
