More Info: It's Back to School days at Belk! While shopping for those back to school clothes, come on by and meet some of the adoptable CARE doggies. We have some very sweet babies looking for forever homes. Even if you are not looking to adopt, come by and give them some love. Hope to see you there. More Info: Membership in the Foothills Herb Society is open to anyone interested in growing and/or using herbs. Monday, August 11 What: Low Cost Spay & Neuter Clinic When: 7:30 am, August 11. Where: Future CARE Facility, (former E.O. Studios), 1056 Old Boilings Springs Rd., Shelby NC. More Info: Clifford's Army Rescue is teaming with Community Pets Mobile Veterinary Clinic to bring a low cost spay/neuter clinic to our area. PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED. Only two animals per family per clinic. You must fill out a separate application for each animal. Arrival time is 7:30 am. If you have not arrived by 8 am, your space will be taken by another needy animal. Please stay in your vehicle as this is a drive through drop off. Pick up is between 3:00 and 3:30 pm. Please make sure that you have someone who can pick up during this time. At this point our facility is not open so we do not have the capability to wait very long after the animals are ready to return to owners. Pick up is drive through also. Please stay in your vehicle, we will come to you. There are some requirements for the mobile veterinary clinic. All animals need to be in carriers. Please label carrier with your name, pet name, phone number. Feral cats need to be in traps. Dogs must be under 40 lbs, not over 6 years old, and no smushy faced breeds. There is an extra charge for animals in heat and/or pregnant. If your animal is over 12 weeks old and no proof of rabies vaccination, one will be administered and charged to you. The breakdown is 5 female dogs, 7 male dogs, 10 female cats, 8 male cats (could have more male cats and less females but no more than 10 female cats). Pricing is set by Community Pets Vet. Saturday, August 16 What: Community Event Fundraiser When: Noon, August 16. Where: Broad River Greenway, 126 Broad River Dr., Boiling Springs, NC. More Info: REGISTRATION is open for the NC Championship Cardboard Boat Race and The Great Backyard Burger Cook Off. Live Music starting at 12:00 p.m. while boats get checked in and ready to race DJ during the remainder of the afternoon. Awards, vendors, food and kids activities! Fun for the whole family, Objective: To design and build a "river worthy" vessel using cardboard, duct tape, and glue that will successfully carry two passengers from a starting line at the boat ramp down the river to a finish line located at the 70 business bridge. No boat will be allowed to leave the starting gate unless: all persons on board are wearing a Personal Flotation Device (PFD), i.e. Life Jacket and shoes; have their handmade paddles. • Participants should bring your own Life jackets they are required. • Helmets are required for participants 9 - 12 / Recommended for all participants. • Boats are 2-man vessels. • All entrants must ensure that their portion of the pit area has been cleaned prior to departure on Regatta Day. All boats must be removed from the park or cut apart and placed in trash containers.
~Announcements~ Monthly Meeting at American Legion, Post 82: 2nd Monday of every month. Meal at 6:00 pm, Meeting at 6:30 pm. Warren F. If you are a son or grandson of a veteran, you can join the Sons of the American Legion. Members of the Legion family can join the Legion Riders. To join the American Legion, the veteran holds an honorable discharge or is an active duty veteran. Spouses, daughters, granddaughters of a veteran can join the Auxiliary. Nar-Anon Support Group: Meets 6:30 pm weekly on Tuesdays at the First Baptist Church, 120 N. Lafayette St., Shelby, NC. Nar-Anon is a support group for those affected by someone else's drug addiction. We meet in the classroom off Dale St. between Sumter & Campbell St. Park on the side of the church or in the alley.
