What: Community Event Fundraiser
When: Noon, August 16.
Where: Broad River Greenway, 126 Broad River Dr., Boiling Springs, NC.
More Info: REGISTRATION is open for the NC Championship Cardboard Boat Race and The Great Backyard Burger Cook Off. Live Music starting at 12:00 p.m. while boats get checked in and ready to race DJ during the remainder of the afternoon. Awards, vendors, food and kids activities! Fun for the whole family, Objective: To design and build a "river worthy" vessel using cardboard, duct tape, and glue that will successfully carry two passengers from a starting line at the boat ramp down the river to a finish line located at the 70 business bridge. No boat will be allowed to leave the starting gate unless: all persons on board are wearing a Personal Flotation Device (PFD), i.e. Life Jacket and shoes; have their handmade paddles. • Participants should bring your own Life jackets they are required. • Helmets are required for participants 9 - 12 / Recommended for all participants. • Boats are 2-man vessels. • All entrants must ensure that their portion of the pit area has been cleaned prior to departure on Regatta Day. All boats must be removed from the park or cut apart and placed in trash containers.

Come meet our adorable, adoptable doggies while enjoying a glass of wine--or your favorite spirit. Not ready to adopt? No problem. Doggie love is for everyone, and these sweet pups benefit from every bit of social time.
We'll even hold your drink while you hold a pup. Yes, really. Stop by, fall in love, and help us help them. Hope to see you there!

Where: (Former EO Studio's) 1054 Old Boiling Springs Rd., Shelby, NC. Drive-Through Format Only.
More Info: Clifford's Army Rescue is stepping up to support our neighbors in need. If you're struggling to provide food for your pets, we're here to help--because no animal should go hungry, and no family should have to choose between love and afford ability. Stay in your vehicle--we'll come to you and help determine what your pet needs. This drive is meant to bridge the gap and support your animals until you're able to purchase food again. Clifford's Army is committed to keeping pets with their families by offering compassionate support during tough times. When we help our community, we help our animals. Let's stand together, Shelby. One bag of kibble, one caring gesture at a time.

Nar-Anon Support Group: Meets 6:30 pm weekly on Tuesdays at the First Baptist Church, 120 N. Lafayette St., Shelby, NC. Nar-Anon is a support group for those affected by someone else's drug addiction. We meet in the classroom off Dale St. between Sumter & Campbell St. Park on the side of the church or in the alley. Al-Anon Support Groups: Al-Anon Family Support Groups support those who are affected by someone else's drinking and drug use. No Name AFG meets on Mondays at Noon at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 510 W Sumter St., Shelby. Contact Kay at 704-473-4891. Shelby AFG meets on Thursdays at 8:00 pm at Shelby Presbyterian Church, 226 E. Graham St., Shelby. Contact Jann at 704-692-7688.

Chess: We meet each month on the fourth Monday of the month at 5:15 unless it falls on a holiday. Join us at the Cleveland County Library System, 104 Howie Dr., Shelby, NC at 5:15-6:45 PM for a fun evening of chess. There are players at all abilities and age groups. Everyone is welcome! If you want to learn or have played for years this meeting is for you. See you there.
