Cleveland County Schools...Kidz Around Summer Camp
        We are currently taking registrations for Summer Camp. The program is designed to provide supervised care for children in grades K-5 including rising Kindergarten and rising 6th grade students. The cost will be $85 per week for the first child and $80 for each additional child attending from the same family; $10 for Kidz Around T-Shirt fee; $30 registration fee required for each child and is N0N-REFUNDABLE.  Children in the summer program may participate in the Cleveland County Schools Free Lunch Program. Piecemakers Quilt Guild, Lincoln Co.
        Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Lincoln Co. Senior Center, Room 319, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen St., Lincolnton. We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting; visitors and new members are welcome. Meeting include a business meeting, show-and-tell, and a program related to quilting. Grace Christian Academy Students Changing the World “One Pair At A Time”
        The student council has been working on a project called, “Soles 4 Souls,” where they have raised more than 400 pairs of shoes for the less fortunate in other countries. This opportunity enabled the entire student body to be a part of the Nashville-based charity orgabnizations, with their mission aimed at giving back to those in need. The school is accepting all types of shoes, sizes, styles and they do not have to be new or in pristine condition. All classes and grade levels are participating in the drive. Life Enrichment Center Events
   DNR, living will, healthcare power of attorney: What do they mean?
        Family caregivers of adults are invited to attend a discussion of end-of-life issues Tuesday, May 17, at the Life Enrichment Center in Shelby. Topics will include DNR, living will and healthcare power of attorney. The program is free of charge and open to the public. The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. but late comers are welcome and will end by 7. A sitter service is available for the adult who needs care, but a reservation is required by May 10 by calling 704.484.0405. No reservation is required to attend the meeting.         Auction of furnishings to benefit Life Enrichment Center
     A fundraising auction will be held Saturday, May 21, at 10 a.m. at the former Life Enrichment Center building at 103 T.R. Harris Dr. in Shelby. Thornburg Auction Co. will be selling dining tables, chairs, gliders, hardwood doors, art work, office furniture, washer and dryer, chest freezer, medical equipment, sofa tables and kitchenware.         Benefits of exercise for Parkinson’s will be meeting topic
        The benefits of exercise in dealing with Parkinson’s Disease will be the topic for the regular quarterly meeting of the Parkinson’s Support Group Tuesday, May 24, at the Life Enrichment Center in Shelby. This meeting is free of charge and open to those diagnosed with Parkinson’s and their care partners. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m., a new time for the group. Cherry Blossom Festival 2011
        Our Festival will begin Friday, April 29th at 5:00 pm until 11:00 pm. Friday is Wristband Night for $15 with Unlimited Carnival Rides and Inflatables plus Games, Fun House, Face Painting, Train rides by Little Blue Choo and Food Vendors. Miss Cherry Blossom Pageant will be held at 5:30 pm at the Gazebo and at 6:30 pm DJ Johnny B and “The Entertainers” will perform from 7:00 until 10:00 pm. Bring a chair and your dancing shoes!         Kings Mountain’s Relay for Life is having a “Zumba for Life” on APRIL 30, 2011 – 10 am -12:30 pm at Kings Mountain’s Patriots Park at the Gazebo. Registration begins at 9 am, $15 per person, all proceeds to benefit the American Cancer Society. Wear purple to support cancer awareness. This event is for people of all shapes and sizes, ages 8 and older. Zumba is an exhilarating, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, dance fitness-party that is downright addictive. Everyone at any fitness level can come out, learn some new moves, burn some calories and have a great time. There will be lots of door prizes. Refreshments will be provided during the break. Relay For Life Golf Tournament
        Cleveland Regional Rehab will hold their 6th Annual Golf Tournament for a Cure fundraiser on Friday, April 29, 2011 at Deebrook Golf Club. Lunch begins at noon. Arts On The Square
   The fifth annual “Arts on the Square” will be held April 30th from 9-4:00 on the historic Courthouse Square in Uptown Shelby. Visitors will have a chance to experience art and fine crafts for local artists. Arts and crafts will be for sale as well as being juried for cash awards. 1st Annual Broad River
European Classic Car Show
  The 1st Annual Broad River European Classic Car Show, hosted by the Broad River European Motor Club will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011 on the square in uptown Shelby, NC. This will be a show of vintage and classic European and British cars. This event coincides with Art on the Square and Foothills Merry-Go-Round Festival. There will be a variety of activities for all members of the family to enjoy. It will be an opportunity to share and show your classic car. All European and British marks are welcome for this event. European and British motorcycles are also welcome.  A donation from the proceeds will be made to the Abuse Prevention Council.  Awards will be given for each class by popular votes.         “Camp Mostly Smiles” – This is a one-day retreat for children ages 6 - 16 who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Participants will have the opportunity to express their grief through writing, crafts, play activities and group discussions.        The Lincolnton Lions Club will be sponsoring their second annual Pancake Breakfast at Fatz Cafe, 1430 East Main Street, Lincolnton on Saturday, May 7th from 8:00 am to 10:30 am. 6th Annual Foothills
JROTC Drill Championship
   The NC Foothills Detachment #1164, Marine Corps League, Shelby will host the 6th annual Foothills JROTC Drill Championships Saturday, May 7th. The event will be held on the east end of Cleveland Mall in Shelby, NC with opening ceremonies beginning at 0900. The event will feature schools for North and South Carolina representing all military branches. Competition will be held in platoon, squad, duel and individual drill including exhibition drill. This event is open to the public and every one is welcome. They will be awarding a $500 Scholarship at this years event to one cadet chosen from the participating schools, along with the trophies.         Our 3rd Annual Trail Ride to Fight Multiple Sclerosis will be held Saturday, May 21st. Register early to receive a T-shirt and lunch. Only $25.00 to participate. There will be a Silent Auction and Door Prizes. Leave Bar H Arena at 10:00 am and ride the Broad River Greenway. Free lunch will be served from 1:00 - 2:00. Register by May 1st if possible. Parking Lot Flea Market
       Back by popular demand, the Neal Senior Center is offering the Parking Lot Flea Market (outdoor market) again in 2011. There will be several events during the Spring and Fall of the year. The cost will continue to be $5 per parking space with a maximum of 3 spaces available per vendor. 
The first Parking Lot Flea Market will be held on Friday, May 27, from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm.  All interested vendors should contact Lisa Abernethy at the Council on Aging/Senior Center, by phone (704-482-3488) or email (labernethy@agingcouncil.org).   Parking spaces go quickly so don’t delay in reserving yours – the reservation deadline is May 20, 2011.
