Greater Shelby Community Theatre
Greater Shelby Community Theatre will present Treasure Island, based on the classic adventure novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. It tells the story of young Jim Hawkins and his relationship and escapades with the famed pirate Long John Silver. Children and adults alike will enjoy this yarn of piracy on the high seas. Performances are in the Keeter Auditorium on the campus of CCC. Dates are July 24-26, 2015. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30pm. Sunday performances are at 2:30pm. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time at carolinatix.org/events/detail/treasure-island. Tickets may also be purchased at the door. (Loud sound effects may frighten small children.)

The Cleveland County Arts Council is pleased to announce that on July 22-25, 2015 the 16th Annual "Real to Reel International Film Festival" will once again open its doors to embrace film makers and film lovers alike. Located in the heart of North Carolina between Asheville and Charlotte, Cleveland County is right in the middle of it all. The mission of the Real to Reel International Film Festival is to offer a forum for independent film, video, and multi-media artists from around the world to showcase their talents and expose the works of these artists to our region. NAMI Rutherford Cleveland
National Alliance on Mental Illness Rutherford Cleveland County will have their July meeting on July 23, 2015, in the Crawford Building at Rutherford Regional. The board will meet at 6:15 followed by a public meeting at 7:00. The speaker will be Jennifer Green of Monarch in Shelby. Jennifer will answer questions about mental health programs and services offered in our area. Everyone is welcome.
Lost Playwrights
Lost Playwrights will meet Saturday, July 25, 2015, in Kapplan Auditorium of Henderson County Library, 301 North Washington Street, Hendersonville, NC, from 2PM until 4PM. All persons interested in creative writing or theatre are invited. There are no dues.

5K Walk - Celebrate Recovery Awareness
Second Baptist, Shelby will sponsor a 5k/walk run to be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 to raise awareness for the ministry of Celebrate Recovery. It is their desire that participants and those who attend this event will learn about Celebrate Recovery and in turn help spread the word about this blessed ministry that has helped hundreds of thousands of people, just like you and me overcome our past hurts, hang ups and habits. All entry fees will go to cover the cost of the event and fund needs for the ministry of Celebrate Recovery. Piecemakers Quilt Guild
The Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets 1st Wednesday each month at the Senior Center at Gaston College, Lincolnton NC, at 9:30am. Come meet us and join our quilt guild. Shelby No-Name Al-Anon Family Group
Shelby No-Name Al-Anon Family Group meets on Mondays from 12:00-1:00pm, at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 502 W. Sumter St., Shelby, NC. The purpose of al-anon is to provide support to friends and families of alcoholics. Anyone who is affected by someone else's use of alcohol or drugs is invited to attend. Habitat for Humanity Cleveland County
Habitat is taking initial applications for its 2016 Home Build now through August 15, 2015. The applicant must be able to make no interest house payments of $475 to $525 a month, must have a real need for better housing, must live in Cleveland County, and must be willing to partner with Habitat by completing "sweat equity" on the home and by attending Homeowner Workshops. The typical Habitat home has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and is approximately 1100 square feet. Applications may be picked up at the Habitat ReStore, 323 W. Grover St., Shelby or to receive an application by mail, call the Habitat office at 704-482-6200. In order to be considered, completed initial applications must be received by the Habitat office no later than August 15th. Habitat is an Equal Housing Opportunity organization.

Child Support Announces Anonymous Tip Line
The Cleveland County Child Support Office has opened a new Tip Line to allow the public to anonymously report the whereabouts and any other information of noncustodial parents who may be avoiding establishment and/or enforcement of a child support order. Tipsters will be able to call the Tip Line 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. They will not be asked to leave their name or any other identifying information. When calling the Tip Line, helpful information would include the noncustodial parent's full name, date of birth, current address, phone number, place of employment, vehicle tag number, or any other information that could lead to the location of the person. The number for the Tip Line is 704-487-0661 and when prompted for an extension, dial extension 727.

The Piedmont High School Annual Reunion
The Piedmont High School Annual Reunion is Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Burns Middle School. Registration and a period of socialization begin at 4:00pm. Dinner will be served at 5:30pm followed by a period of business and musical program entitled "Long, Long Ago". Reservation must be made and prepaid by August 7, 2015. Shelby High School Class of 1955
The Shelby High School Class of 1955 has planned their 60th reunion on Friday, August 21 and Saturday, August 22, 2015. Friday, August 21: early arrivals will meet at Alston Bridges BBQ at 3:00pm for a 'taste of hometown BBQ'. Friday evening there will be a performance by "Elvis and his Band" at the Don Gibson Theatre. The lounge opens at 6:30 and doors to the theatre open at 7:30pm with the concert beginning at 8:00pm. Saturday noon: classmates will meet in the private dining room for a luncheon at Ichiban, 1712 East Dixon Blvd., Shelby, NC. An afternoon tour is planned after the luncheon. Saturday night will be a social time and dinner at the Don Gibson Theatre. Doors to the lounge will open at 5:00pm with hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar and "meet and greet". 6:00pm: dinner of BBQ pork and chicken with all the trimmings will be catered by Harry McKee. After the meal, class pictures will be made. Reservations for special seating at the "Elvis" show on Friday must be made by July 10, 2015.
