Notification of Discharge of Untreated Water
General Statute 143-215-1C requires that the owner or operator of any wastewater collection or treatment works to issue a press release when an untreated wastewater discharge of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface waters. In accordance with that regulation, the following new release has been prepared and issued to the media in the affect county: Cleveland. The town of Boiling Springs had a discharge of untreated waste water on January 11, 2026, estimated at 2,000 gallons from a sewer manhole inside the campus area of Gardner Webb University. The campus is locate at 110 South Main Street Boilings Springs, NC 28017. The wastewater discharge occurred due to a blockage in the main line from rags and grease accumulation, the untreated wastewater was discharged into Lake Hollifield in the Broad River Basin. The Town of Boilings Springs is taking remedial measures to evaluate this area of wastewater lines and implement improv3em3ents to prevent this from occurring in the future.
