Odis "Clarence" Deaton
Odis "Clarence" Deaton, 80, resident of Kings Mountain passed away peacefully from this life on the morning of June 2 after a gradual decline in health. He was surrounded and supported by his family and caregivers during the last days of his life. Clarence was born in Cherokee County, SC. He was a hard worker in the textile industry and put in some long, hard hours to care for his family. Outside of watching and "going to the race", he loved to fish and play horseshoes and was excellent at both. Clarence was the son of the late Claude Estee Deaton and Cona Bell Jenkins Deaton. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janice Brown Deaton along with four children (and spouses): Rodney Deaton (wife Lali), Jody Deaton (wife Donna), Monty Deaton (wife Amanda), Toby Deaton (wife Tracie); nine grandchildren: Tyler Deaton (wife Lesley), Tayler Herdemian (husband Jeff), Tanner Deaton, Joshua Deaton, Zachary Deaton, Kalie Deaton, Jacob Deaton, Makena Deaton, and Camden Deaton; and three great grandchildren; Addison Deaton, Eli Deaton, and Henry Deaton. Clarence is also survived by his brother James Deaton. He was preceded in death by nine siblings: Ettra, Stoy, Roy, Lunel-Payne, Helen, Geneva, Jack, Maynard, and Curtis.
