Paul William Cabe


Paul William Cabe of 716 Meadowbrook Road, Kings Mountain, NC passed away at home Wednesday, May 6, 2015. Paul was born in Franklin, North Carolina, on January 16, 1944. Paul was a graduate of Western Carolina University where he served as student body president and was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. He later completed a master's degree in History and English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Early in his career he worked in commercial real estate for Alcoa, Inc. and for the Norfolk and Western Railroad. He spent the latter part of his career in advertising and movie product placement. He served as Vice President for Product Placement for Warner Communications in New York City and Warner Movie Studios in Los Angeles. He also worked as an executive for the Mattel Corporation and Johnson and Johnson as well as other firms. While in Kings Mountain, Paul worked at the Kings Mountain Herald.

Paul had many interests. He was an avid reader, an expert collector and appraiser of antiques, a renovator of houses and had a keen interest in local history and community affairs. Paul was an Eagle Scout and a member of Order of the Arrow. He was a camp counselor at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimmaron, New Mexico. In Kings Mountain, Paul joined First Presbyterian Church and was active in the community. He was a former member of the Gateway Trails Committee and the Downtown Improvement Committee.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Dorothy Cabe of Franklin, North Carolina, and by a nephew, Brian Russell Cabe of Alexandria, Viriginia. Paul lost his life partner, David Stephens, from a battle with cancer. Paul is survived by a brother, Lewis Russell Cabe and wife Diane of Alexandria, Virginia; a sister Jane Cabe King and husband Jerry of Kings Mountain, NC; and a niece, Tanessa Cabe Harte and husband Steve and two grand nieces of Forest Hills, New York. He is also survived by Jane's stepchildren: Karen Moser and husband Jeff ; Todd King and wife Paula; Finley King and wife Eden; Susan King; and four grand nieces, three grand nephews and one great grand niece .

Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 9 at Harris Funeral Home, Kings Mountain, North Carolina. . Memorial services will be held at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel following visitation at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Franklin, NC. on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at 4:00 p.m.
