Mrs. Pearl Carpenter Southard, 95, of Belwood-Lawndale Road, Lawndale, NC, passed away Friday, November 5,  2010. Services were held at New Bethel Baptist Church, Lawndale, NC. Burial followed in the church cemetery. 

Mrs. Southard was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Weldon Southard; her parents, John David Schenck Carpenter and Zoie Elam Lattimore Carpenter; 2 brothers, John and Hugh Carpenter; and 4 sisters, Jennie Lovelace, Louise Peeler, Meredith Newman and Ruby Mae “Tute” Carpenter.

She is survived by 3 sons, Larry Southard and wife Ita of Cork, Ireland, Tim Southard and wife Anne of Shelby, and Terrell Southard and wife Dinah of Rock Hill, SC; 1 sister, Nell Carpenter of Lawndale; 2 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: New Bethel Baptist Church, P.O. Box 5, Lawndale, NC 28090; or Meals on Wheels, c/o Council on Aging-Senior Center, 100 TR Harris Dr., Shelby, NC 28150.
