Peggy Jean Putnam Houser

Peggy Jean Putnam Houser "AT THE LAKE", age 86 of Mooresboro, NC, passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on November 7, 2025. Born August 16, 1939, daughter of the late Hythe and Ruth Putnam, Peggy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Peggy attended Cliffside High School where she was captain of the cheerleading squad all four years and voted Most Talkative. In 1957 she married her childhood sweetheart, the love of her life, Wayne; they recently celebrated their 68th Anniversary. A lifelong member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Peggy faithfully served her church family and community through ministries at Ridgecrest and outreach for disaster relief in New Orleans and other places. She had a love for music, sang in the choir and she and Wayne cared for children in the nursery. She enjoyed working as a real estate broker for 35 years, receiving numerous awards and recognitions throughout that time.

Known as a prolific writer, Peggy was a regular contributor to the Shelby Star. Whether it was a fun article about her and Wayne's travels, baby announcements, or picnics at the lake, she made sure it was shared through the local paper. She loved her family deeply, was always an encourager and exemplified love like no other. Peggy and Wayne left a legacy of what selfless love looks like-an example to all.

She is survived by her husband Wayne Newton Houser. Additional family members include her brother Stephen Putnam (Marsha), children; Garry (Maxine), Bruce (Cindy), Pam (Al) and Susan, 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her brother Billy Putnam and her sister Marjorie Morgan.
