Mr. Phillip Gerald Newton, 76, of 5363 Casar Rd., Casar, NC passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2010. Services were held at Clover Hill United Methodist Church, Casar, NC. Burial followed in the church cemetery. 

Mr. Newton served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ophus Grayson Newton and Effie Louella McNeilly Newton; and 2 sisters, Ottie Whitworth and Annie Ruth Sisk.

He is survived by his wife, Reba Thompson Newton; 1 son, Cris Newton and wife Robin of Casar; 1 daughter, Dawn Cape and husband Mike of Casar; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Wayne Newton of Hickory; and 2 sisters, Carol Hunt and Jean Martin, both of Casar.
