Preservation NC is holding a “Ramble” in Shelby this Sunday, October 26, 2014 from 11am-4pm. Participants will have the chance to tour the following properties in Shelby: El Nido, the Guffey House, the Durham-Whisnant House, the Dr. Victor McBrayer House, 216 McBrayer Street and Mason Square. These six historic properties are just a snapshot of Preservation NC’s work in Shelby which began in 1982 with the Masonic Temple. This important building became one of the state’s first examples of small-town downtown residential development. Tickets are available online through 5pm Friday for $20 and will be $25 at the door (which can be purchased at El Nido,520 W. Warren Street).
Since then, Preservation NC has protected 11 total properties in Shelby. The six showcased on the tour represent a fine sampling of properties that have been protected through covenants with Preservation NC.
Tickets may be purchased at: http://www.presnc.org/events/event/shelby-ramble/.
