Rachel Greene Alexander

Cherryville - Mrs. Rachel Greene Alexander, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at her residence. Rachel was born on January 16, 1938 in Cleveland County, NC a daughter of the late Dever Lewis Greene and Annie Laura Beam Greene. Rachel and her husband Joe attended First Baptist Church in Cherryville. They served diligently and faithfully through the years together and individually. Alongside her longtime friend, Carolyn Turner, Rachel taught Sunday school, Mission Friends, Children's Choir and yearly Bible schools. She loved her Adult Women's Sunday school class as well as her Pearl Elliott Mission Group. Rachel helped cook and serve many meals with the bereavement groups and meals provided through the Christian Outreach Center at First Baptist Church. Rachel and Joe enjoyed visiting throughout the community, especially those in the hospitals, nursing homes and shut-ins. They both went weekly to Carolina Care to sing, visit, support and provide devotions. Rachel retired from Carolina Care Center in Cherryville with 29 years of service. She loved taking care of her patients and training many others in compassionate care. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Joe Dean Alexander and a son, Joe David Alexander. Survivors include her son Donald Alexander and wife, Kim of Cherryville; her daughter, Mary Ann Capps and husband Mark of Kings Mountain; four grandchildren, Bryce Alexander (Natasha), Emily Vaughn, Brock Alexander (Meredith) and Matthew Drake (Olivia); four great grandchildren, Sierra Alexander Lawing (Brenton), Bryer and Bruin Alexander, Camden Vaughn and a soon to be great great granddaughter, Leighton; two sisters, Recca Bingham and Jane Cooper and a sister-in-law Frances Grigg all of Shelby. A graveside service will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, June 2, 2023 at City Memorial Cemetery in Cherryville with the Revs. Tom Kinman and Jhoan Alfaro officiating. Burial will at City Memorial Cemetery in Cherryville. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Handy Man Ministry, 301 E.
