Ralph H. Scism
Monday, July 16, 2012 11:29 am Mr. Scism was born in Cleveland County, NC on July 30, 1927, a son of the late Frank Scism and Mittie Lail Scism. He was retired as a superintendent with the Department of Corrections in Shelby. Mr. Scism was a member of Waco Baptist Church and the W.H. Dodd Sunday School Class serving as Sunday School superintendent for many years and was a former deacon. He was also a member of Cherryville Masonic Lodge #505 A.F. &A.M., and the Scottish Rite Bodies of Charlotte. Mr. Scism also served his country in the US Navy during WWII. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Dorothy “Dot” Turner Scism, of the home; a daughter, Lynn Smith of Blacksburg, SC; three sons, Donny Scism of Waco, Rusty Scism of Charlotte and Mike Scism and wife Wanda of Mt. Holly; four grandchildren, Brian and wife Stefanie Scism, Robbie and wife Krista, Roc-anthony Smith, and Jeff Martin; seven great grandchildren, Tyler and Austin Scism, Hunter Martin, Jaelyn, Maylee and Landon Smith, Mackenzie and Mikayla Brady also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Mr. Scism was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be on Monday, July 16, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Stamey~Cherryville Funeral Home and at other times the family will be at the home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Waco Baptist Church with Dr. Harold Fite, Rev. Wilson Harmon and Dr. Bill Lowe officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Shelby with Military and Masonic Rites at the graveside.
