Reverend Thomas “Hoss” Irvin


 The Reverend Thomas “Hoss” Irvin, 74, of Kingstown Road, Shelby, died on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Carolina’s Medical Center - Main of Charlotte. A native of Cleveland County, he was born on December 14, 1939, a son of the late Lee and Annie Connor Irvin. He was a well digger for 30 years and was the former pastor and a current member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Kingstown.

 
He is survived by his wife, Alice Marie Wall Irvin; four sons, Danny Irvin, Thomas Irvin, Jr., Chad Irvin and wife Cylee, all of Shelby and Chris Higgins, of Gaffney, SC; four daughters, Catherine Irvin, Denise Irvin, both of Shelby, Tina Hawkins and husband Ronnie of Mooresboro, and Amy Reynolds and husband Tim of Ellenboro; one brother, Clifford Irvin of Shelby; two sisters, Daisy Williams of Shelby and Dorothy Tate of Caroleen; 21 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
 
A Celebration of Rev. Irvin’s Life will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Kingstown with the Rev. Joe Sparks officiating. The body will lie-in-state from 1:00pm-2:00pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00pm-8:00pm on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at McKinney-Landreth & Carroll Funeral and Cremation Service.
