Richard Russell Reeves, 79, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2025, at his home in Shelby, NC. Born in Miami, Florida, he was the son of the late Joseph Russell Reeves and Mercedes Diaz Reeves. He was also preceded in death by his son, Charles Reeves.

Richard was a proud Boy Scout and later a devoted Scout Master. He honorably served in the U.S. Coast Guard and went on to enjoy a 30-year career with BellSouth. Following his retirement, he worked for the U.S. Post Office in Shelby, where he formed many lasting friendships. Until his health declined, he was a faithful attendee of Crestview Baptist Church.

Richard is survived by his wife, Eileen Greene Reeves; his sons and caretakers, Elliott Hayes (Tiffany), Christopher Reeves (Amanda Brokaw), and Joseph "Joey" Reeves (Sharon) ; and his cherished grandchildren, Natalie Reeves, Timothy Reeves, Nadia Reeves, Caleb Davis, Emerald Ruppe (Dustin), and Jacey Jensen (Ryan) Shiloh McKinney. He is also survived by his great-grandson, Milo McKinney, as well as his sisters, Deborah Dusch (Paul) and Rebecca Lopez (Gary).

A celebration of Richard's life will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, December 15, 2025, in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory, with Pastor Artie Hubbard officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Coast Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
