Robert "Bob" Miller McMurry


Robert "Bob" Miller McMurry, 87, of Shelby, passed away January 17, 2015 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Bob was born September 13, 1927 in Cleveland County, N.C. He was the son of the late Robert Lee and Selma Miller McMurry. He was the devoted husband of the late Margaret McMurry, of 63 years, and a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend.

He is preceded in death by his wife Margaret Blanton McMurry, a sister, Bernice McMurry Hoyle, brother-in-law, Foy Holye, and a brother, Jack McMurry.

He was a veteran of the Army Air Force and a member of the American Legion. He was a faithful member and former deacon of First Baptist Church, Shelby. He was a graduate of Belwood High School and later attended Gardner Webb Jr.
College. He was a loyal employee of Bost Bakery in Shelby for 33 years.

Bob was an outdoorsman all of his life. He enjoyed quail hunting, fishing and working on his family farm and in his garden. He was a man of great faith, generosity, integrity and honor. He loved sincerely and was loved dearly by his family and friends.

He is survived by a daughter, Susan McMurry Grose and husband David of Shelby; son, Robert Alexander McMurry and wife Valena of Huntersville; two brothers, Fitzhugh McMurry and wife Judy and Joseph McMurry and wife Beverly; two granddaughters, Michelle Grose of Charlotte and Megan McMurry of Charleston; two grandsons, Michael Grose of Shelby and Ben McMurry of Raleigh; and a sister-in-law, Francis Harris of Boling Springs, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The memorial service will be held Wed, Jan. 21 at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, Shelby. The family will receive friends following the service in the Ladies Parlor. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in Sunset Cemetery.
