Ruby "Joyce" Nanney White

Ruby "Joyce" Nanney White, age 95, of Shelby, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

Born in 1930 to the late William "Dee" and Epsie Smith Nanney, Joyce was a lifelong daughter of Shelby. She graduated from Shelby High School, where she was honored as Prom Queen - a recognition that reflected not only her beauty but also her kindness and warmth, traits that marked her entire life.

Though she found joy in many roles, Joyce considered her greatest calling to be that of a devoted wife to Bobby and loving mother to their three sons. Alongside raising her family, she served for many years as a Teacher's Aide at Graham Elementary School, where her care and encouragement touched countless young lives. In her later years, she continued her service to others as a faithful volunteer at Cleveland Memorial Hospital.

A woman of energy and discipline, Joyce was known around town for her dedication to fitness. For years, she could be seen walking five miles a day through Shelby's neighborhoods. Later in life, she embraced water aerobics as her exercise of choice.

For more than 70 years, Joyce was a devoted member of Dover Baptist Church. She served joyfully in many roles and was sustained by a deep and abiding faith. Each day, she studied her Bible and lifted her family and friends in prayer. She will be remembered as a woman of grace, generosity, and steadfast faithfulness.

Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 74 years, Bobby Moore White. She is survived by their three sons: Scott White (Terry) of Shelby, NC; Gary White (Kathy) of Simpsonville, SC; and David White (Connie) of Atlanta, GA. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, each of whom were the joy of her heart.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 11th from 1:00-3:00 at First Baptist Church, Shelby, NC in the Dover Activities Center. Interment at Sunset Cemetery at 3:30 - immediately following the visitation.

Memorial gifts may be made online to Alzheimer's Association SC (alz.org/sc).
