Samuel Stevens Callahan, 84, husband of the late Laura White Callahan, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Monday, February 9, 2026.
Born and raised in Cliffside, NC Sam was the son of the late Milan B. and Pearl L. Callahan. He was a member of the last class of Cliffside High School and attended Limestone College and Gardner-Webb Junior College. He loved participating in sports, lettering in football, basketball, and baseball during his high school and college years. He married Laura J. White in June 1963. Upon graduation from college, he began a distinguished career in sales. Together, he and Laura owned and operated three overhead door businesses in VA and SC. They were married for 59 years until Laura's passing in 2022, and through every season of life, their love remained constant and true--a love story that began in seventh grade. He was a patient, kind, honest, humble man, faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ. He was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church in Taylors, SC. Sam was a very devoted, loving father to Sandra E. Callahan and Brian S. Callahan and his wife Michelle, and proud grandfather to three granddaughters: Carly, Audrey, and the late Taylor Callahan. He is also survived by his sister, Rebecca Scruggs of Seneca, SC and a niece, and two nephews. He loved coaching Brian in baseball, teaching him the art of pitching. He and Laura were inseparable and never missed a game from tee-ball throughout the completion of Brian's college career. As his granddaughters came along, he never missed a soccer game or event, even when carefully navigating Laura's wheelchair or using his cane. He was a loyal son, husband, father, brother, and friend. Sam's life was a reflection of Christ's love, and his legacy will live on forever.
