What: Cleveland County Astronomical Society's Meeting
When: 7:00 pm, September 17.
Where: Gardner-Webb University, 110 S. Main St., Boiling Springs, NC.
More Info: FREE public observing event (International Observe the Moon Night) with the 29" telescope the largest portable telescope in the Carolinas at Gardner-Webb University, meeting on the field next to the Lutz-Yelton Convocation Center parking lot, unless we have bad weather then we will have a regular meeting at the William's Observatory. If you have an interest in astronomy, come out and view the Moon through this scope. We will also have a smaller scope setup for those unable to climb the ladder for the big telescope.

What: Paul Porter Memorial Golf Tournament

Where: River Bend YMCA Golf Course, 3005 Long Wood Dr., Shelby, NC.
More Info: The golf tournament is 4 person team for $280. Lunch will be served at 11:00 AM through out the day. Call 704-482-4286 for tee times. 10am -1pm. More Info: Tables are: $100 a table or $25 a chair. You can decorate your table how you'd like. BE Creative!! All proceeds go to the Alzheimer's Association. There will be food & entertainment. What: 49th Annual Cleveland Lincoln County Rose Show
When: 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm, September 26.
Where: Cleveland County Extension Office, 130 S. Post Rd., Shelby, NC.
More Info: Admission is free, the show is open to the public. Come enjoy a beautiful display of locally grown roses, meet experienced rosarians, and learn more about growing roses on your own. Have a rose you are proud of? Bring it! You do not have to be a Rose Society member or an experienced exhibitor to enter, and a novice class is available for those new to showing roses. This year visitors can also bring an unidentified rose between 7am and 10 am on Saturday and let our rosarians help determine it's variety. The rose show will open 1 to 4 PM for the public to view the beautiful roses, photography class and arrangements classes that have been judged. At 4:00 PM, the show roses will be sold to the public, with long-stem roses 3 for $1 and smaller rose 4 for $1. Bring your own container and take home some of the lovely roses! Whether you grow roses, want to learn, or simply love beautiful flowers, everyone is welcome.

Foothills Quilters Guild: Foothills Quilters Guild invites you to join us each month on the third Thursday at the Ascension Lutheran Church 300 N. Lafayette St in Shelby NC. We welcome new members young and old to learn and share in the talents and knowledge of the art of Quilting. Our doors are open at 10am for open sew day. Bring your machine and any project to work on or join in on the mystery Block of the Month or other fun activities throughout the day. Nar-Anon Support Group: Meets 6:30 pm weekly on Tuesdays at the First Baptist Church, 120 N. Lafayette St., Shelby, NC. Nar-Anon is a support group for those affected by someone else's drug addiction. We meet in the classroom off Dale St. between Sumter & Campbell St. Park on the side of the church or in the alley.
