The Shanghai Volunteer Fire Department Board of Directors convened on January 13th, 2026. The board moved forward with election of officers; Josh Biddix was elected Chairman Of The Board and Mike Carr elected Vice-Chairman Of The Board.
The board appointed Matt Childers as Interim-Chief along with appointing a Chief's Search Committee.
Interim Chief Childers has 15 years in emergency services and has a B.S. Degree in Emergency Medical Management from Western Carolina University. Interim Chief Childers has Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 certifications, Fire Officer Certification, Fire Instructor Certification, is a NCOEMS Paramedic Instructor, is HazMat certified and Technical Rescue Certified.
Shanghai VFD was founded in 1959 and has been serving the community since.
