Sherwood Vanoy "Duck" Brown
Mr. Sherwood Vanoy "Duck" Brown went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 26, 2025. He was born on May 21, 1953, in Cleveland County, NC, to the late Malinda Brown. Sherwood was known for his impeccable sense of style, his ability to make others around him laugh, his dedication to hard work, and building his community through his Brown Enterprise business. Sherwood was employed with PPG and Cleveland County Schools where he retired after years of employment. He also ran his own family business, Brown Enterprises, for over 40 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and attending football games. He was dedicated to providing outreach to the community by giving back, and he was a faithful member of Changer's Church. He is preceded in death by his mother, Malinda Brown; sister, Jeanette Brown; brother, Eugene Brown; nephew, Richard Brown; father-in-law, Murrell Spikes; sisters in law, Hazel Degree, Sarah Lavern Spikes, Mae Lane; and brother in law, George Hauser. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 44 years, Elizabeth Ann Spikes Brown; two sons, Sherwin Brown (Chrissy) of Shelby, NC, and Joshua Brown (Christian) of Boiling Springs, NC; his mother-in-law, Sarah Spikes; his grandchildren, Kaniyia Brown, Kweli Huskey-Littlejohn, Azari Brown, Kendrick Curlee, Charis Brown, and Milo Brown; his brothers-in-law, Michael Spikes (Patricia) and Murrell Spikes of Kingstown, NC, Kenneth Lane of Shelby, NC, Marcus Lane of Greensboro, NC; sisters-in-law, Janet McClain (Rufus) of Kings Mountain, NC, Rosa Marie Flack of Kingstown, NC, and Sharon Hauser of Gaffney, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Changers Church, Shelby, NC. Enloe Mortuary was in charge of the services.
