Shirley Rene Baxter Brown



Mrs. Shirley Rene Baxter Brown, 68, of 119 Thompson Drive, Kings Mountain, NC departed this earthly life for her eternal home on Tuesday, June 12, 2013 at Wendover Hospice in Shelby.  She was born on April 17, 1945 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Roosevelt and Irene Bratton Baxter.

Shirley was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where before her health declined, she was very active serving over the years as church secretary, pastor’s aide, kitchen committee member, choir member and as a missionary.  She was formerly employed with Doran Textiles.

Her favorite pastimes included spending time with her family, including her grandchildren and cooking.  In addition, she will be remembered as a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four brothers, Eddie, Ralph, Robert and James Baxter; two sisters, Dorothy Camp and Clora Camp; two brothers-in-law, Joe Robbs and Harold Brown, Sr. and a sister-in-law, Ruth Dunbar Smith. 

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 50 years, Floyd Edward Brown; three sons, Kenneth Baxter and Ronald Brown (Julia) both of Cherryville, NC and Herman Brown of the home; a daughter, Sylvia Renee Chambers of Waco, NC; six grandchildren, Malcolm R.K. Brown of Raleigh, NC, Jamar Wright of Atlanta, GA, Jennifer Simmons (Mark) of Waco, NC, Brittany Chambers of Durham, NC and Jada Brooks and Chancee Baxter both of Cherryville; five brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; two aunts, Naomi Ratchford of Philadelphia, PA and Annette Dawkins of Charlotte, NC; one aunt, Roy Bratton (Fannie) of Brooklyn, NY;  a special niece, Barbara Spikes; two special nephews, Robert Baxter (Avis) and Jeffery Baxter (Nicole) and a host of additional nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 17, 2013 at 4:00 PM at Macedonia Baptist Church with Pastor Les Howard officiating.  Burial will take place at the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM.  Condolences can be expressed online at www.enloes.net.  Enloe Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
