Stephen Poteat, 81, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Haywood Clea Poteat and Francis Humphries Poteat. Along with his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy Joe Poteat and Jack Evans Poteat.

For over 50 years, Steve owned and operated Poteat's Front End and Brake, earning a reputation as a trusted mechanic and friend. He was a proud member of the Oasis Shrine Club in Charlotte, the Piedmont Shrine Club in Shelby, and the Masonic Friendship Lodge #388 AF & AM.

Steve was a devoted Pawpaw who will forever be remembered for his deep love for family and friends, his passion for fishing, the beach, and racing, and his unwavering dedication to serving his community, especially through his years of coaching women's church softball leagues.

He is survived by his devoted wife of over 60 years, Ginger Justice Poteat; his son, Stephen Timothy "Tim" Poteat (Lisa); his daughter, Tabitha Poteat (Dr. Misty Justuce); and his cherished grandson, Jacob Dylan Poteat. Steve also leaves behind his special niece, Tiffany Davis; a close friend who was like a son, Johnathan Wray; his sister-in-law, Janice White; and many other beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Eastside Baptist Church from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with the funeral service immediately following, officiated by Rev. Dale Byrd and Rev. Maggie Andre. Burial with Masonic Rites will be held at Beaver Dam Baptist Church following the service.
