The Joe and Sophia Goforth Playground Is Just A Few Days From Reality

The Joe and Sophia Goforth Playground Is Just A Few Days From Reality
Last Friday, Pam Isaacs, president, Shelby Kiwanis Club, visited the Boys & Girls Club and presented a check from the Kiwanis Club members for two thousand five hundred dollars to a group children at the Boys & Girls Club. This donation moved the total raised to just over $26,000 with pledges of another $4,000 having been received, putting the total at $30,000 of the $32,000 price tag for the playground.
February 27-March 1, the National Playground Contractors Association International (NPCAI) will be attending a training class at the Le Grand Center at Cleveland Community College.  Volunteers and employees of Playground Safety Services will prepare the community build site at the Boys & Girls Club for the playground on Thursday and Friday.
March 1, Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, March 2, nine different groups will volunteer their time to build the playground.  Included in the project are students from Burns High School Future Farmers of America Chapter, Crest High School Key Club, members of the Shelby Kiwanis Club, employees from the Clearwater Paper plant, officers from the Shelby Police Department and the Cleveland County Sheriff's office, as well as nieces and nephews of Joe and Sophia Goforth and Board members from the Boys & Girls Club.
Roger Davis, president, Playground Safety Services and principal instructor for the NCPAI class is looking forward to Saturday afternoon when children will be able to try out the swings and playground.
Susan Goforth Porter, niece of Joe and Sophia, noted that the playground will be a wonderful way to remember Joe and Sophia, two very special people who gave so much to their family and community.                         –Provided by Jack Weller
