Timothy Scott Bowen, age 66, of Calabash, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, at Embrace Hospice House in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, surrounded by his family. Tim was born on July 3, 1959, in Shelby, North Carolina, where he spent most of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wray and Ruth (Jenkins) Bowen. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rhonda Kiser; his sons, Timothy "TJ" and Bradley "Ryan" Bowen; his brother, Eddie Bowen (Vickie); his niece, Ruthie; and his nephew, Kyle. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Cortlan Allen-Zaludek (Jake), Caroline Thebeau (Dan), and Colby Kiser; his cherished grandchildren, Jack, Max, and Avery Zaludek; Platt and Abbott Thebeau; Brendan, Charlee, Wyatt, and Rhett Kiser; his sister-in-law, Gale Collins; his brother-in-law, Neal Floyd (Karen); his nephew, Matthew; and many extended family members and dear friends. A proud 1977 graduate of Crest High School, Tim was a standout athlete who played baseball for the Chargers. His love of sports continued throughout adulthood as he played industrial softball and other leagues for many years with teams including Reliance Electric, PPG, Plastic Oddities, and Barnette's Beehive. He also enjoyed playing basketball in the Northside Baptist Church league, where he formed lasting friendships through fellowship and friendly competition. He began his career with PPG before spending 34 years with Reliance Electric/Baldor and ultimately retired as a supervisor with ABB in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Tim will be remembered as a genuinely kind man whose easy-going nature, generous heart, and unforgettable laugh brought joy to everyone around him. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, and his warmth and compassion left a lasting impression on family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers alike. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Tim remained a devoted fan long after his playing days were over. He faithfully cheered for the Miami Dolphins, the Cincinnati Reds, and especially his beloved UNC Tar Heels. He was also an avid golfer and spent many happy years playing at River Bend Golf Club in Shelby, where he treasured the friendships he built both on and off the course. After moving to Calabash, Tim embraced life on the North Carolina coast. He loved the beach, the slower pace of coastal living, and, most of all, spending time with his family and friends. Not long after relocating, Tim was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia, an aggressive and devastating disease that he battled for several years. As golf became more difficult, his days were filled with walks through his neighborhood and visits with neighbors along the way. Even as the disease progressed, Tim's gentle nature and caring heart remained evident. Tim's faith was an important part of his life. He was a member of Sulphur Springs Methodist Church in Patterson Springs, North Carolina, attended Elevation Church in Gastonia, North Carolina, and in recent years worshiped at Highest Praise Church in Shallotte, North Carolina. A memorial celebration honoring Tim's life will be held at the Calabash Marina in Calabash, North Carolina, on Saturday, July 11, at 7:00 p.m. Casual attire is requested. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Tim's honor to the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office (P.O. Box 9, Bolivia, North Carolina 28422), memo: Project Lifesaver Program. Tim's life was lived through kindness, humility, laughter, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
