U.C.A.N. Lends A Helping Hand

U. C. A. N. offers food, clothing and financial assistance through their set policies. Those qualifying are placed on a 4, 6, or 9 month program. All the food and merchandise is donated. Aside from the Executive Director, this mecca of assistance is staffed by dedicated volunteers. For example, Frances Brice, who is 81 years old, has been there for “32 years, and 4 months” as she says. JoAnn Greene, and Janice Scott both have volunteered for 14 years. The entire organization consist of neighbors reaching out to help other neighbors in upper Cleveland County . This crises emergency food pantry allows a person to select groceries, including meats, according to their qualifications. It also provides clothing and features a thrift store filled with bargains for the local gentry. You can even find furniture. U.C.A.N. is open 9 a.m. until 12 noon Monday through Friday and no appointment is necessary. For information you can call 704-538-8417. U.C.A.N. is located downtown at 230 E. Main Street, Lawndale. Soon, there will be a new sign out front that should make the facility easier to locate.
