Vergie Lorene Willis Heavner, age 89, of Cherryville, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Peak Resources in Cherryville. She was born March 21, 1937, in Lincoln County, to the late Burgin Jacob and Bertha Cook Willis. Vergie was a longtime, faithful member of Cherryville Christian Fellowship. She retired from Sweetree and always exhibited a strong work ethic while supporting her family. She cherished her family deeply and especially loved her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Lewis Heavner; beloved daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Ray Trammell; precious granddaughter, Shellie Heavner Jones; brothers, Garry, J.C., David, and Dwight Willis; and sisters, Ruth Ledbetter, Hazel Hartsoe, Velma Hartsoe, Kay Taylor, Ann Ferrell, and Inez Willis.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Scott Edwards; grandson, Bo Trammell; great-grandsons, Scott Jones (Haley) and Daniel Jones; great-great granddaughter, Mara Grace Jones; sisters, Brenda Cook and Judy Gales (Doug); sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Wacaster and Polly Houser; and brothers-in-law, Bill Heavner and Eddie Heavner (Susan).

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Cherryville Christian Fellowship with Rev. Bobby Holtsclaw officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 to 1:45 PM, prior to the service at the church.
