Virginia Randle Coon
Virginia Randle Coon passed away on March 1, 2018, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. She was 96.
Prior to moving to Aldersgate retirement community in 2003, Ginny spent her life in Cleveland County, N.C. She was born April 12, 1921, to the late Lizzie Lee and John Clyde Randle of the Bethlehem community near Kings Mountain. She grew up on the Randle dairy farm with siblings Elizabeth, Ruth, Geneva, Walter and Howard, all deceased.
After a year at Appalachian State Teachers College, she married her high school science teacher, Steve Ladson Coon, who died in 1999. After his military service in WWII, the couple settled in Fallston. He taught science and she managed the school lunchroom.
Ginny was proud of being a farm woman. She and her husband spent the summers preserving fruits and vegetables from their large garden. She was also known for organizing and cooking for community and church events.
Ginny was active in Friendship United Methodist Church, the Fallston Woman's Club and Order of the Eastern Star. She and Steve enjoyed a number of church mission trips to the Caribbean and Mexico.
"Mama Ginny" is survived by a son, Steven, and wife, Rebecca Kuhn, of Charlotte; granddaughters Julia and husband Brian Knopp of Dallas, Texas; and Emily and husband Erik Tolsma of Charlotte; great-grandchildren Justin Sanchez and Chloe Tolsma of Charlotte; and nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Rose Hill cemetery in Fallston.
