Walter Eugene "Gene" Putnam, age 92, resident of Grover, NC died May 28, 2015 at home. He was born in Cherokee Co, SC to the late Thomas Lee Putnam and Sudie Foster Putnam. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Jordan Putnam; 2 brothers, Lee Putnam and Bill Putnam; 4 sisters, Elsie Ross, Alie Andrews, Flora Martin, and Catherine Hardin; great grandson, James Evan Martin Felkel. Mr. Putnam was retired from Minette Mills, Grover, NC where he served as superintendent of weaving and winding and he was a farmer. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Grover, NC, a member of the VFW, the Cattleman's Association, and the Grover Lions Club. He served in the United States Army in Normandy, serving with Patton, and he was recipient of 4 Bronze Stars. We would like to offer a special thanks to Eloise Royster for caring and loving our father and family.
