William Steve Champion, 87, of Shelby passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Brookstone Terrace in Thomasville.

He was born in Cleveland County, on September 28, 1938, and was the son of the late Charles Champion and Mary Sue Wease Champion. He was retired from McLean Trucking and Cleveland Lumber and following retirement he worked for River Bend Golf Course. Steve was a member of Westview Baptist Church and an avid golfer. He will be fondly remembered for being a jokester and all-around kind fun loving man.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty-seven years, Frances Pauline Floyd Champion.

He is survived by his son, Scott Champion and wife Jaime of Winston Salem, a granddaughter, Chloe Anderson and husband Austin, great grandson, Mason Anderson and a sister, Tina

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 PM at Rose Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Jim Brackett officiating.
