Wilma Ruth Jenkins Hickson, age 96, died Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Carolina Care Center, Cherryville.  Wilma was a native of Gaston County, born December 1, 1916, the daughter of the late John Coleman and Lessie Black Jenkins.  She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, a loving wife , mother, sister and grandmother. Wilma graduated from Lynchburg S. C. High School as Valedictorian of her Class. She was a teacher’s assistant for the Gaston County School System.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Herbert Morris Hickson, Sr., a grandson, Herbert Morris Hickson, III, two brothers, Kent Jenkins and Ray Jenkins.
 
Survivors:  Her son:  Herbert Morris “Hub” Hickson, Jr. and wife Gloria of Gastonia, grandchildren:
Kristi Anthony-Keeter  and husband Leard of Cherryville, Timothy Hickson and Wife Angie of Bessemer City, Step-grandchildren: George M. Jenkins, Jr. and wife Jena,  Meredith Jenkins Parnell and husband Kyle,  all of Belmont. 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.  Sister-in-law: Carolyn P. Jenkins, of Cherryville.
 
Funeral Services will be conducted at 3:00PM Thursday,  December 27, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. Vince Hefner officiating, the family will receive friends from 1:30PM to 2:45PM at the Church prior to the service. Burial will follow in the City Memorial Cemetery.
