Woodrow Wilson Whisnant, born on October 26, 1947, in Lawndale, NC, passed away peacefully in Cleveland on March 9, 2026, at the age of 78. Known for his steadfast dedication, unwavering spirit, and infectious enthusiasm, Woodrow's life was a testament to the power of loyalty, love, and resilience.

Woodrow spent his career as a Machine Operator at Smurfit-Stone, where his diligent work ethic and commitment to excellence left an indelible mark. In every endeavor, whether professional or personal, he exemplified the virtues of hard work and integrity.

A passionate sports enthusiast, Woodrow enjoyed all sports and was a devoted fan of the L.A. Dodgers and the UNC Tar Heels. Through victories and defeats, his support never wavered, demonstrating the true essence of loyalty.

Woodrow was a cherished member of Zoar Baptist Church in Shelby, NC, where his faith and community involvement were cornerstones of his life. His spiritual journey was one of deep commitment, reflecting his enduring belief in love and fellowship.

For 55 beautiful years, Woodrow shared his life with his beloved wife, Dianne. Their marriage was a beacon of love and partnership, inspiring all who knew them. Together, they nurtured a family filled with love and strength.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow W. Whisnant and Catherine (Crowley) Whisnant; sisters, Margaret Whisnant and Elizabeth Ann Whisnant; mother-in-law, Della M. Rainey; and grandsons, James R. Whisnant and Alex T. Whisnant.

Woodrow leaves behind a legacy of love through his surviving family: his devoted wife, Dianne Whisnant (Rainey); sons, Marcus L. Whisnant of Chicago, IL, and Lukus D. Whisnant of Aiken, SC; daughter, Sheila C. Whisnant of Jefferson, SC; sister, Susan W. Pritchard of Gastonia, NC; and grandchildren, Abigail Grace Whisnant of Charlotte, NC, Caleb James (Whisnant) Hoyle, and Riley Jacob (Whisnant) Hoyle, both of Shelby, NC.

Services to honor Woodrow's remarkable life will be held on March 14, 2026, at Zoar Baptist Church located at 1740 S Lafayette Street, Shelby, NC 28152. Visitation will begin at 11:30 AM, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM, officiated by Clergy Jon Jones.

In every role he embraced--husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and neighbor--Woodrow Whisnant embodied the virtues of kindness, dedication, and faith. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.
