4-H Summer Campers 'Sew It Up'

Participants in the "Sew It Up" 4-H Summer Fun Camp learned the basics of sewing, quilting and hand-made projects in their 3-day camp at the Cleveland County Extension Office. In the sessions led by Extension and Community Association (ECA) volunteers Betty Bridges, Pat Farley and Brenda Mull, these campers learned how to use their sewing machines and how to read patterns to make their own tote bags to take home with them at the end of camp.
In addition to making something for themselves, these camp participants completed a community service project and learned to give back to the community with their new skills. Each camper completed a "fidget apron" to be donated to patients at Hospice of Cleveland County. On the last day of camp, campers delivered the aprons to Hospice staff and met with Krista Haynes, Volunteer Coordinator, to learn more about the need for the aprons and other volunteer opportunities and tour Wendover Hospice House in Shelby.
