Carl Clay Sloan, Sr., age 81, died on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at his home. Born in Iredell County, NC on September 11, 1935, he was the son of the late Rex Orrin and Edna Toyce McCurdy Sloan. Clay was a partner in the printing company Sloan Graphic Arts. He was a former assistant scoutmaster in Waco for troop #99. Clay enjoyed gardening, and going to flea markets. In addition to his parents, Clay is preceded in death by his wife, Gerri Baxter Sloan; two brothers, William O. Sloan and James Foy Sloan; and two sisters, Polly Hart and Joyce Madison.

Clay is survived by Two sons, Carl Sloan, Jr. and wife Angela of Clover, SC and Terry Sloan of Shelby, a daughter, Jan Waters of Casar; daughter-in-law Becky Sloan of Shelby; four brothers, Donald (Na) Sloan of Winston-Salem, Dennis (Carolyn) Sloan and Wayne Sloan both of Olin and Gerald (Debbie) Sloan of Statesville; five sisters, Frankie S. Moose of Kannapolis, Elvalee S. Templeton of Olin, Dorothy S. Campbell of Statesville, Almedia S. (Bill) Baxter of Statesville and Judy S. (Larry) Upright of Olin; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11:00 am at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Fallston. The family will receive friends following the service.
