Gaffney, SC - - Carolyn Diane Greene Spencer, 82, of 609 Montgomery Street, entered her home in Glory on Friday, November 11, 2016 at Mary Black Health Systems-Gaffney.
Born and raised in Cherokee County, she was the loving wife and childhood sweetheart of Freddie Spencer and the daughter of the late Lovelace C. Greene, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Owens Greene. After graduating Gaffney High School in 1953, she worked for
31 years at Gombert VW/Mazda in Spartanburg, where she retired. She later went to work for the Mattocks family and from there retired again. Carolyn genuinely loved people and was a friend to all. She loved Southern Gospel Music and sang with the Chapelettes for 41 years. The title of one of the songs she wrote was, "Just Listen" and became the title of their very first project produced by Brooklyn Baptist Church. Mrs. Spencer was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church and attended Cherokee Gospel Tabernacle. She was predeceased by four brothers, J.M. Greene, Charles Greene, L.C. Greene Jr., and Gary Greene; a sister, Betty Greene Parker; three nephews, Howard Greene, Zack Foreman and Charles "Chuck" Greene; two nieces, Tammie Kay Beam and Tracy Jones.
Left to cherish precious memories, is a step-daughter, Tracy Kiser; a granddaughter, Kim Messer; three great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; three sister-in-laws, Sandra Greene, Coleen Greene and Thu Greene; numerous nieces and nephews, all whom were very special as if they were her own children.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 1:45 PM on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 PM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Betty Gentry officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
