Charles Arthur Springer

Jacksonville, NC - Charles Arthur Springer, 84, of 1314 McAllister Road, died Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at his home. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 2:00pm at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

Charles Springer was born January 8th, 1933 in Chattanooga, TN to the late Robert Ruston Springer and Barbara Nolan Springer. As an expatriate of Ruskin, FL, he moved to Jacksonville, NC in 1956 after returning from duty in Korea.

He was a retired Master Sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps. His entire military career was spent in the field of communications, the latter half in communication and electronic intelligence, as a Cryptanalyst and German Linguist. He was a proud member of the Marine Corps Cryptologic Association. After his retirement from the Marine Corps he managed Family Dollar Stores in Jacksonville, Elizabeth City, and Shelby, NC, Dee's Jewelers, The Big "L", Pollards IGA and Fulchers Rentals also in Jacksonville, NC and Hughs Jewelers in Shelby, NC.

Other than his parents, he is also preceded in death by his son, Richard Ruben Springer.

He is survived by five children; Charles Anthony Springer of Shelby, NC, David Evan Springer, Charles W.H. Springer and wife, Dawn, Carmen Springer Weathers and husband, Ray all of Jacksonville, NC and Sherry Springer Heavner and husband, Ricky of Shelby, NC; 11 grandchildren, Lillian Carmen Hood and Chase Alexander Springer of Jacksonville, Charles Samuel Guthrie III of Lumberton, NC, Starla Sher Martin, Sarah Catherine Ramsey, Taylor Suzanne Ramsey, Rick Heavner, Reva Holland all of Shelby, NC, Tabatha Nicole Springer, Betsy Ann Marie Daly and Michael Anthony Springer of FL; 11 great-grandchildren, Luke Anthony Galloway, Bobbie Abigail Martin, Clayton , Avery, Talin ,and Isaiah Holland, Raegan Nowowiecki, Savannah Heavner, Hunter Martin, Mackenzie Brady and Mikayla McCurry all of Shelby, NC

Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville is handling the arrangements.
