D. Albert McCarter

D. Albert McCarter former of Clover SC, left his earthly life peacefully in his daughter’s arms at his home in Gaffney SC on Sunday night February 2, 2014 to begin his earthly life in Heaven. His strong body gave into cancer diagnosed in December 2013. Albert was born August 10, 1936 to the late Carson and Ollie Bryson McCarter in Clover, SC.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sons, Eddie Lonell McCarter  and Albert Perry McCarter.

Albert was a former member of the Clover National Guards and the Clover Rescue Squad. He worked in the textile industry at both American Thread and Springs Industries from the age of 16 years old until 1969 when he began welding for the Westinghouse in Charlotte. There he also served three years as President of the  Activities Association where he organized company parties, dances, picnics, etc.. for the employees and their families. During the 70’s and 80’s Albert also bought and resold produce from the farmer’s market in Columbia, SC and enjoyed going to the mountains to bring truckloads of apples back to sell to local businesses and residents. For a brief period he ran The South End Cafe in Clover and was a partner in home remodeling business.  In 1989 Albert relocated to North Carolina as the owner of the prospering video rental business.

He enjoyed Classic Country and Bluegrass Music, Square Dancing,Buck Dancing along with Western, Action and Mob movies. His favorite, The Godfather.

Suffering a massive stroke in 2000, Albert’s life changed drastically, a huge adjustment for him, although he never complained. Limited to speech, he ALWAYS reassured his children and grandchildren that he loved them until his last hours of life.

Albert is survived by his daughter, Gayle Childers and husband Jeffrey of Gaffney SC; and Tammy Riddle and husband Ernie of Lake Wylie, SC; and his former wife of 31 years and the mother of his children, Carolyn Dameron McCarter of Fort Mill, SC.

Albert was grandpa of seven grandchildren, Travis Childers and wife Kelli, Gabrielle Childers, Julia Riddle, Erin Riddle, Robert McCarter and wife Laura, Michelle McCarter, William “Buster” McCarter; and seven great grandchildren, Travis’ sons, -Damon Childers and Bradyn Childers; Robert’s children-Philip and Emily McCarter, Michelle’s daughter, Melanie Picariello, William’s children- Blake and Shali McCarter.

Albert was the oldest sibling to four brothers and sisters; Floyd, Hubert, Louise, JC, Jeanette, Raymond and was preceded in death by Patsy.

In lieu of formal funeral proceedings and visitation a private service to remember the life of Albert will be held by his children.
