Evelyn Brackett Smith, age 77 of Whitworth Rd. went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 12, 2015 at Peak Resources in Cherryville. She was born on April 2, 1938 in Cleveland County to the late Clarence Dewey Brackett Sr. and Mattie Ethel Mosteller Brackett. Evelyn was a member of First Wesleyan Church where she formerly sang in the choir and was a member of the Wesleyan Women. She was retired from Carolina Freight Accounting Department. Evelyn had a great passion for cooking. She also had a great love for her family. Five days after the death of her loving husband, Evelyn was reunited with Bob in Heaven.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert Charles "Bob" Smith, Sr. on July 7, 2015; and siblings, Lonnie, Lee, and Carl Brackett, Geneva Colvard, Pauline Unverzagt, Lona Brackett, Virginia Brooks, Ethel Brackett, and Eva Hoyle.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Robert "Bobby" Smith, Jr. and wife, Darla of Maiden; daughter, Suzette Smith of Cherryville; brothers, C.D. Brackett Jr. and wife, Rachel of Salisbury, Edgar Brackett and wife, Corene of Cherryville, and Fred Brackett and wife, Nancy of Lancaster, SC; sister, Becky Osborne of Lenoir; special friends, Carl and Wendi Beam and her "adopted grandchildren," Tyler, Andrew, and Anna Grace Beam; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 3:00 PM at First Wesleyan Church with Rev. Mark B. Poe officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:30 to 2:45 PM prior to the service at the church.
