Evelyn worked in textiles but she really found her niche working with children. She served as a Girl Scout leader and worked as a teacher's assistant. She worked at both Lattimore and Union Elementary Schools. Co-workers attest that she had an amazing ability in having fun with the students but drawing the line when it was time to master basic skills required for kindergarteners. After retiring from the public schools, she worked as a pre-school teacher at Double Springs Baptist Church Day Care. Parents knew that their children would be prepared for kindergarten because Miss Evelyn knew the exact skills that they needed. Always the children in her care knew that she loved them.
Hobbies were a big part of Evelyn's life. Whatever she pursued, she did so wholeheartedly having her own kiln in her basement to fire her pottery and ceramics. She loved camping and the beach, especially if her grandchildren were with her.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Double Springs Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tony Tench.
