2015 Relay For Life Cleveland County, Shelby Meeting Schedule: March 3, 2015, 6:00pm, Cleveland Vol Fire Department - Leadership Team. Family Fun Night - Families of all sizes and ages are invited to a Family Fun Night Saturday, February 28, at Double Springs Family Life Center. For donations to Relay for Life, you can play a variety of games and enjoy snacks from 6:00-8:00pm. There will be a silent auction of some great items and other items for sale, such as handmade jewelry and crafts. This is a fundraiser for the Double Springs Relay for Life team. Double Springs Relay for Life yard sale to be held March 27 and 28. Clean out your closets, garage, and basement and donate it all. Then, come out to shop to help stop cancer. You can begin now bringing your unwanted treasures to the hand bell room in the Family Life Center. The yard sale and a hot dog supper will be held 5:00-7:00pm, Friday, March 27, 2015. Shop and eat supper, too. Saturday, March 28, the sale begins at 8:00am and ends at noon. A biscuit breakfast will be available. There will be sausage, ham, and butter biscuits, jam and juice, and coffee. All proceeds will benefit the Double Springs Relay for Life team.
Team Ollie will be having a fish fry fundraiser and scholarship fund in memory of Alan Biggerstaff, who Team Ollie is name, on Saturday, March 28, 2015, 12:00 noon - 7:00pm, at the Friendship Masonic Lodge in Boilings Springs, NC. They will also be selling baked goods, and will have a silent auction the same day from 4:00-6:00pm. Contact Stephanie Newcomb, 704-472-5714.
Angels of Hope - Purchase tickets for a chance to win a Browning X-Bolt 30/06 rifle. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25. Rifle value is $900. Please contact Monty Vassey at 704-484-3430 to purchase a ticket. The drawing is May 15, 2015, 11:00 at Relay for Life. Do not need to be present to win.
Shine a Light on the Fight Against Cancer - During the Relay For Life Cermony, votive candles are lit inside of personalized bags to shine a light on the fight against cancer. The power of this ceremony lies in providing an opportunity for people to share their grief and find hope. During the Luminaria Ceremony, candles and torches brighten the way for Relay For Life walkers through the night. In the soft glow of candlelight, we reflect on the courage and strength of all who are affected by cancer. Early Bird Opportunity: order torches by March meeting and have the matching picture on the ten bags that come with the torch.

Five time Tony Award winning musical, The Music Man is set in 1912 in River City, Iowa where con man Harold Hill poses as a boys' band organizer and leader. He sells band instruments and uniforms to the naïve townsfolk, promising to train the members of the new band. But Harold is no musician and plans to skip town without giving any music lessons. Shelby Parks & Recreation will give Beginner Shag Lessons, Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at 6:00pm, at the Shelby City Park (Gym). No partner needed. Broad River Genealogical Society
The Broad River Genealogical Society presents: Robert "Bob" Inman, Novelist, Screenwriter, Playwright, Essayist. Mr. Inman will speak at their general meeting on Sunday, March 8, 2015, 3:00pm, at Neal Senior Center, 100 T.R. Harris Dr., Shelby, NC, about his play "Liberty Mountain," that premiered at the Joy Performance Center in Kings Mountain, in October of 2014, and about the events that helped turn the battle in favor of the rebels. Everyone is invited to go and hear Mr. Inman talk about this decisive battle where many of our ancestors fought and where some of them died so that we could be a free country. Knights of Columbus, Gastonia
The Nights of Columbus will be holding a Basketball Free Throw Championship, Sunday, March 8, 2015, 3:30-5:30pm, at St. Michael Catholic School gymnasium, 708 Saint Michael Lane, Gastonia, NC. Registration will begin at 3:00pm. All boys and girls ages 9 - 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for this Basketball Free Throw Championship. The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually, with winners progressing through local, district, and state competitions. International champions are announced by the K of C headquarters based on scores from the state-level competitions. All boys and girls will compete in their respective age and gender divisions. Since its beginning in 1972, over 2.5 million youths have participated in the contest.
Cleveland County Schools Preschool Screening
Screening for the 2015-2016 preschool classes will be: March 16-20, 2015 (no make-up screening will be offered). The location will be at Office of School Readiness, 308 W. Marion Street, Building B, Shelby, NC 28150 (location of old Shelby Middle School, small building near tennis courts. Parking is in back). This is for children who live in Cleveland County and will be 4 years old by August 31, 2015. Hearts for Hospice Fundraiser - For a $1 donation (or more), you can purchase a heart to display in your home, office, church, anywhere you wish. There is a place for you to put "In Honor/Memory" of a loved one and a line for "From". Hearts can be purchased at the Hospice Administration Building or by calling 704-487-4677 ext. 166.

"Reflections" Support Group, Tuesdays, March 10, 17, 24, 31 and April 7, 14, 2015, 5:30-7:00pm - This grief sharing group meets for six weeks. No cost and open to anyone who has lost a loved one. Hospice Volunteer Training Class - Monday, March 16, Tuesday, March 17, and Thursday, March 19, 2015. 9:00am - 1:00pm or 5:30pm - 9:30pm, at the Hospice Cleveland County Administration Building. Hospice training is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about hospice care and the services provided to the community. This 12-hour course is free. To get credit for the entire course, you will need to attend all days at one of the times offered. For more information, contact ext. 111.
Chicken Dinner and Dessert Sale, Friday, March 27, 2015, at Hospice Cleveland County, 3:00pm - 7:00pm, $12 a plate (1/2 Chicken, slaw, pickles, baked beans, roll, dessert). Chicken prepared by Doug Fortenberry. Drive-thru only. Proceeds support Hospice Cleveland County.
Springs Memorial Service - Patients that have died September 1, 2014 through February 28, 2015 will be remembered. Family members will receive a special invitation. This will be Sunday, April 19, 2015. Time TBA, at First Baptist Church, 120 N. Lafayette St., Shelby, NC.
