Upper Cleveland Football and Cheer Signups
   Please mark your calendars!!! Sign up for Upper Cleveland Football and Cheer signups. Signups will be held on Saturday, August 2, 9:00-12:00. They will be held at Piedmont Community Center, Lawndale NC. Sign-up Fee: $75 for Football players; $35 for cheerleaders plus uniform cost. Cash, credit and debit cards accepted.        South Mountains State Park, 3001 South Mountains park Avenue, Connelly Springs, NC, has the following Environmental Programs scheduled:
        Saturday, August 2: “Animals of the South Mountains”. Join a Park Ranger to learn about the many animals that call South Mountains home. The program will begin at 11:00am in the Visitor Center auditorium.
        “NC State Ranger”. What does a Park Ranger do on a day to day basis?  Meet in the Visitor Center auditorium at 2:00 pm.
        Sunday, August 3 & Saturday, August 30: “The 10 Essentials”. What items should you always carry with you when hiking? Meet a Park Ranger at the Visitor Center at 2:00pm to learn about the “10 Essentials”.
        Saturday, August 9: “The Amazing World of Spiders”. Silk stronger than steel?  Join Ranger Waltz at the Visitor Center at 11:00am for an informative presentation on spiders.  Participants will have the opportunity to catch and examine spiders that are alive.     
        Saturday, August 9 & 16: “Animals of the South Mountains”. Join a Park Ranger to learn about the many animals that call South Mountains home.  The program will begin at 2:00pm in the Visitor Center auditorium.
        Sunday, August 10 & Saturday, August 23: “Black Bears: Majestic Creatures of the Wild”. How dangerous are black bears? Can we coexist? Why are black bears so unique? What should I do if I see a black bear? The program will begin at 2:00pm in the Visitor Center.
        Saturday, August 16: “Masked Bandits”. Fact or Fiction: Do raccoons wash their food? Find out the answer to this and much more about those furry little “masked bandits” at South Mountains State Park. Meet Ranger Amanda at the Visitor Center at 11:00am to learn a few myths and legends as well as fun facts about raccoons. All ages welcome.
        Sunday, August 17 & 24: “Knot Tying 101”. Knot tying is a fundamental skill for many tasks. Whether you are a beginning climber, backpacker or just want to learn a few knots. Join a Ranger at the Visitor Center at 2:00pm.

        Saturday, August 30: “Streamside Hike”. Join a Park Ranger at the Jacob Fork Parking Area at 11:00am for a streamside hike along the Jacob Fork River.

KINGSTOWN COMMUNITY WATCH
        Kingstown Community Watch will be having a “Plate Sale”, Saturday, August 2, 12:00pm - 4:00pm. Fish, pintoes, cole slaw, cake, and drink, $5. Proceeds help with Founders Day.
Hospice Cleveland County Events
   Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC will have the following events in July and August:
        “Reflections” Support Group - Tuesdays: August 5,12, and 19, 5:30pm - 7:00pm, at Hospice Cleveland County Administration Building. This grief sharing group meets for six weeks. No cost and open to anyone who has lost a loved one.
        “Hospice Training Class” Monday, August 4 and Tuesday, August 5, 9:00am - 1:0pm or 5:30pm - 9:30pm. Hospice training is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about hospice care and the services provided to our patients in Cleveland and Gaston Counties. This course is free and there is no obligation to volunteer. The classes will be held at Hospice Cleveland County. To get credit for the entire course,  you will need to attend both days at one of the times offered. Hospice Cleveland Copunty offers a number of opportunities for volunteer involvement, including direct contact with patients/families, assisting in the office, or at one of our inpatient/residential facilities.         “Memory Bear Workshop” - Thursday, August 7, 9:00am - noon or 4:00pm - 7:00pm, at Kings Mountain Hospice House, 321 Kings Mountain Blvd., Kings Mountain, NC. Participants will have the opportunity to make a teddy bear out of a loved one’s shirt or other article of clothing. Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Space is limited. Life Enrichment Center Adult Day Care and Health Services
   Are you ready to learn more about Dementia to help your loved one? Join Life Enrichment Center on Tuesday, August 5, 5:30 - 7:00pm, for a three-part video series featuring Teepa Snow, Dementia Expert. A free sitter service is available but must make reservation by August 1. Call 704-739-4858.
        If the time came, could you make a medical decision for your loved one? Join Life Enrichment Center on Tuesday, August 19, 5:30 - 7pm, to discuss Faith Perspectives for Healthcare Decision Making with Len Byers, Director of Spiritual Care and Education for Cleveland County Healthcare System. South Mountain Baptist Association Fun Day
        The South Mountain Baptist Association, 3639 NC Hwy 18 Vale, NC, will be having a Free Family Fun Day August 16, 4:00-8:00pm. Everything will be free! We will give out 300 school supply bags ranging from kindergarten through high school at 5:30.  We will also have a hot dog meal, inflatables, games, face painting, gospel music, pop corn, sno-cones, a clown will be giving out balloons, and will even be giving free hair cuts. Everyone is welcome, we will have interpreters for hispanics. For more information call 704-462-4472.    
Casar Masonic Lodge Golf Tournament
        Casar Masonic Lodge will have their 8th Annual Golf Tournament, August 23, 9;00am, check in at 8:00am, at Pine Mountain Golf Course, 2961 Pine Mountain Drive, Connelly Springs, NC 28612. Shotgun Start. Captain’s Choice. Four Man Team, $200 per team entry fee. Prizes: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, longest Drive, and Longest Putt, Closet to Hole (Par 3s). Free golf towels to the First 48 Entrants. Mulligan’s & Tee Busters, $5 each per Member. Lunch provided. This is to support the Masonic Children’s Home and Masonic and Eastern Star Home. Singles Dinner Group, Shelby

Mental Health Association of Cleveland County
        Survivors of Suicide Support Group meets twice a month, with a daytime and evening meeting. The Evening Group meets the 2nd Monday of every month from 6:30pm - 8:00pm at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer (502 W. Sumter Street, Shelby, NC).  The Daytime Group meets the last Tuesday of every month from 11:30am - 1:30pm at the Cleveland Memorial Library (104 Howie Drive, Shelby, NC). Sponsored by the Mental Health Association in Cleveland County. Parents Without Partners, Shelby
       PWP meets every Monday night at 7:00 pm. at the Shelby Presbyterian Church for educational programs and at other times as scheduled for monthly social activities including: dances, plays, and concerts. The Piedmont High School Annual Reunion
        The Piedmont High School Annual Reunion is Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Burns Middle School. Registration and a period of socializing begins at 4:00pm. Dinner is served at 5:30pm.  Business session and Musical Program “UNFORGETABLE-A TRIBUTE” follows the dinner. Reservations must be made and prepaid by August 8, 2014.
