Reese's Love Will Tie Us Together
Reese’s Shoe Drive - Donations will be received through April 11.
Reese realized during this past holiday season what it meant to give to others who are really less fortunate. On December 14, 2013 Reese along with her Aunt Kelly and the Cleveland County CBA/ABATE attended the "Ride to the Homeless Shelter" to donate toiletries, food, toys and clothing items to men, women and kids residing in the shelter. On this particular day it was very cold, windy and raining and finding a place to stand under the overhang was a must for Reese. After leaving the shelter Reese was full of questions. She wanted to know ALL of the details about the shelter, who lives there, why do they live there, what do they eat, where do they get clothes, do the kids really live there, can they have friends over, the process of standing in line to enter the shelter, etc. Throughout the next few weeks, every time we were in Shelby, a ride by the Shelter was a must. One night soon after Christmas, Reese began to tell us that she had been thinking about the people living in the Shelter and that she realized that she received more toys and clothes for Christmas than one kid should ever have. She began to tell us that she knew what she wanted to do for her birthday. She began to shed light on a plan that came straight from her heart. She began to tell us that when she was standing under the overhang at the Men’s Shelter waiting on the bikes to arrive, she noticed 2 young boys who appeared to be very cold. She noticed that each of them had on shoes that were soaking wet and very worn out. She immediately without hesitation said she wanted everyone to bring shoes to her for her birthday instead of gifts. After the party is over she wants to take the shoes to the Shelter and deliver them herself. If she receives more shoes than the Shelter can take, she wants to take them to her school to give to children who need them. We were instantly in shock and amazed of how much thought she had put into her plan. Reese’s dream has now been made into a plan, a plan that she herself has come up with. Please join us in celebrating Reese’s birthday while giving to others in need. Luke 6:38 says: Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.  All donated shoes will be going to the Men and Women’s Shelter of Cleveland County and other organizations in need.
Please join Reese Gettys in changing OUR community one pair of shoes at a time by donating New or Gently used Tennis Shoes for women, men or kids. “No One Should Have Holes In Their Soles” Reese’s Goal is 180 pairs of shoes.
