David Christopher “Chris” Owens, 48, of Shelby, died on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Kings Mountain Hospice House.  A native of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late James Gene Owens, Sr and his mother Mary Frances Walker Luco.  In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers.  He worked at Kendrick’s Citgo for many years and attended Love Valley Baptist Church.

Mr. Owens is survived by his mother, Mary Frances Walker Luco of Shelby, NC; a son, David Christopher Owens, Jr of Shelby,  NC; two daughters, Frances Ann Owens and Christina Nicole Owens of Shelby, NC; two brothers, Robbie Owens of Fallston, NC and Barry Nodine of Grover, NC; two sisters, Connie Gilbert of Boiling Springs, NC and Becky Barnett of Shelby, NC; four grandchildren; his ex-wife, Julie Ann Owens of Shelby.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at America’s Best Value Inn Conference Room, 825 West Dixon Blvd, Shelby, NC with the Rev. Bobby Quinn and the Rev. Barry Philbeck officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home, 106 Cherryville Road, Shelby, NC 28150.
