Dessie Ellis Hullender, 91, died Sunday, June 5, 2011, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.  Born April 7, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Flay Oscar and Affie Ledford Ellis.  Dessie was a creative homemaker, savory cook, magical “green thumb” and loving mother.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her form husbands, Glenn Davis and George Hullender; a son, William Hullender, and two infant children; and all her siblings –Ves “Curly” Ellis, Colon Ellis, Clayton Ellis, Hubert Ellis, Lois Brendle, Leecie Austin, Mary Thomas, and Betty Blanton Seay.

Ms. Hullender spent her entire life providing for her family, children, and friends before a stroke in March 2000.  At an early age she professed Christ and lived a servant’s faithful, generous and humble life.  The family thanks the CPNC staff for over 11 years of care and Hospice for end-of-life comfort the last 14 months.
