Garland Elmore Cody, 72, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2011 at Hospice Cleveland County.  He was the son of the late James McDonald and Addie Synder Cody.  Also preceding him in death were three brothers and one sister.  Mr. Cody attended Christopher Baptist Church and loved fishing and hunting.  He was the owner and operator of Garland Cody roofing for over 40 years.

Mr. Cody is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Delores Parker Cody of Shelby; two sons, Steve Elmore Cody of Shelby and Ricky Gene Cody and wife Carla also of Shelby; one daughter, Cathy Cody Smith of Charlotte; two step-sons, Carl Parker and Jimmy Parker, both of Shelby; Grandchildren, Steve Cody Jr. and wife Saray, Stephanie Cody Rich and husband Lenny, Carly Cody, Ric Cody II, Tommy Smith, Ronald Smith, Jimmy Parker, Angie Parker; 8 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 3:30pm on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at the Christopher Road Baptist Church in Shelby.  The Rev. Chris Kratzer will be officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:30pm prior to the service in the church sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.
